We are looking for our delegation in Nigeria for a

Field Coordinator

Position Start Date: 1^st of June 2018

Duration: 6 months, more if funding available

Location: Borno State – Nigeria

Terre des hommes does not set closing dates for this position; recruitment is on-going until the position is filled

Contractual conditions:

Expatriate contract under Swiss labour code 3 400 CHF (~2 950 €) < > 4 750 CHF (~4 100 €) net salary/month according to experience x 13, Annual Leave: 25 days per year. Contract includes also local accommodation and transportation, health and repatriation insurance, return flight.

Context:

In line with the 2017 Humanitarian Needs and Requirement Overview for Nigeria, more than 8 Millions of people require humanitarian assistance, especially located in the Northeastern part of Nigeria, Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

Tdh, present in the South West of Nigeria since 2009 through child protection activities, decided to launch an analysis of the situation, with a specific focus on Child Protection, Health and WASH, in the aim to extend its activities to participate to the humanitarian response in the Northeastern part to support the populations affected by the drought, famine and insurgency.

Main responsibilities:

The FCO – is a member of the Coordination team and plays a key role in the overall development, and implementation of Tdh programming and support services in Nigeria :

• The FCO will work with the field team, the CR and HQs’ teams on the designing and fundraising for grants, through the monitoring of donor opportunities, the drafting of concept notes & project documents with a proactive submission to donors.
• He/she will work with the CR to ensure the monitoring of qualitative and operational aspects of the Delegation’s programs on a day-to-day basis.
• He/she will work with the CR to ensure the provision of quality program support services in accordance with Tdh standards and donor guidelines, delivered in a timely manner and within budget limitations.

Fonction details:

Support to Program department

• Work closely with the Program team as a support for the activities implementation in an effective and timely manner
• Ensure that each team’s head unit set priorities and objectives along with action plans and clear guidance
• Ensure that Financial management Tool (FMT) and Indicator Follow Up (IFU) are monthly updated according to program team forecast
• Ensure that all program requirements : proposal writing, intermediate and final reports are anticipate in a timely manner

Strategic, Operational Development & Reporting

• Ensure the coordination of the program and support team to design proposal and reports
• Develop funding strategies and securing high levels of funding from institutional donors
• Strengthens the integrated country program strategy by suggesting and co-leading the design of new operations according to the humanitarian needs evolution
• Under the responsibility of the CR, he/she participates to ensure close contact with bilateral and multilateral donors/funding agencies, of whom he/she knows the policy (operation strategy, financing policy and modalities, in compliance with the associative project of Tdh)

Strengthen the Support department

• Ensure and facilitate efficient and effective coordination between the different support units and the Program with a results-oriented approach
• Implement, document and ensure that Tdh procedures are applied at all times/levels and monitored in complete transparency
• Provide technical recommendations, advise HQ and request for the validation of internal procedures and processes

Security

• Is the security focal point at the field level and report to the CR
• Ensure that Tdh security procedures are applied at all times/levels and monitored in complete transparency in accordance with the country national security plan.
• Develop appropriate contacts and monitor the context evolution on a daily

Staff Performance Management, Learning & Development

• Support the CR to build the capacity of team members in relevant technical and management competencies
• Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions
• Approve and manage all time, attendance and leave requests to ensure adequate departmental coverage
• Development a plan with the CR including on-the-job learning with the aim of strengthening technical capacity, exchanging knowledge within the team

Ensuring the circulation of information and the representation of Tdh

• Ensure information is efficiently communicated between the field and the coordination office
• Participate in coordination meetings and is an active attendee of these meetings
• Coordinate the sectorial representation (with his/her teams) of Tdh among partners, donors and different authorities for the area which he/she is responsible for
• Represent the organization locally amongst donors, NGOs, International Organizations and local authorities and report representation action to the Country Representative in his/her periodical report, communicated ad-hoc when necessary

Other

• Agree to comply with Tdh Code of Conduct and promote Child Safeguarding policy
• Report serious cases of abuse on children that she/he would be aware of in Tdh’s intervention locations. Strict confidentiality must be respected

Profile:

Knowledge :

• Education: University degree in relevant field
• Language: Excellent oral and writing skills in English
• At least 2 years of experience on a coordination position
• Advance IT knowledge (hardware and software, Microsoft Office, Internet)
• Previous experience with an NGO is mandatory
• Previous experience in emergency response is required

Experience :

• Successful track record of developing funding strategies and securing high levels of funding from institutional donors and proven knowledge of logistics implementation at national level
• Ability to work well and punctually under pressure

Skills :

• Required qualities: organized, sense of human relations, diplomacy, communication skills
• Desirable: proactive, autonomous, rigorous, analytical, willingness and motivation to work in an international and intercultural context

Child Safeguarding Policy:

• Raising awareness within the Foundation on violence against children
• Providing guidance to employees and others and defining expectations when it comes to preventing, raising, denouncing and responding to issues of child abuse
• Reducing the risk of child abuse by selectively recruiting employees and others
• Reducing the risk of child abuse by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children
