We are looking for our delegation in Bangladesh for a

Nutrition Project Officer - JPO

Position Start Date: 1st of December 2018

Duration: 6 months

Location: Cox’s Bazar - Bangladesh

Terre des hommes does not set closing dates for this position; recruitment is on-going until the position is filled

Contractual conditions:

Expatriate contract under Swiss labour code 2’200 CHF (~1’900 €) <> 2’400 CHF (2’100 €) net /month x 13 times (+ Withholding AVS candidate for Switzerland). Vacancy: 25 days/year, Health insurance, accident and medical repatriation insurance, location, return flight.

Context:

Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) is the leading Swiss NGO focusing on child rights. It is active in more than 30 countries with development and emergency projects. Tdh focuses its action on the two following areas of intervention: health and protection of particularly vulnerable children. Modern management and communication tools ensure the quality of Tdh’s projects. The Foundation constantly aims to improve its services.

Following the massive displacement of more than 688,000 people into Bangladesh since end of August 2017, Tdh has put in place an important emergency response plan to provide relief to the Rohingya refugees, notably on health, WASH and protection.

Main responsibilities:

The Nutrition Officer contributes to the daily monitoring of the emergency nutrition operations in Cox’s Bazar and the successful operation of nutrition programs. He/she is responsible for the evaluation, implementation and monitoring of the Nutrition Program, with focus on qualitative and technical operational aspects. At the request of the Nutrition PM, he/she participates on any other tasks necessary.

Fonction details:

Implementation of nutrition programs

  • Provides technical support to Nutrition programs activities in the field, in line with the existing guidelines and Nutrition PM recommendations;
  • Conducts regular field trips to nutrition facilities for support and supervision;
  • Ensures that nutrition programs utilize standardized protocols, policies and guidelines, as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and WHO/UNICEF;
  • Ensures the capitalization of lessons learned and good practices in formal documents;
  • Recommends improvements in the nutrition program to achieve better quality programming;

Monitoring of nutrition programs

  • Supports design and ensures the correct implementation of a monitoring plan for the activities;
  • Provides weekly updates on the progress of quality of nutrition activities, according to the action plan prepared by Nutrition PM, based on recommendations of donors and M&E team;

External and internal reporting on technical data

  • Oversees the work of registers in OTPs and Nutrition data clerk to ensure that data is reflecting the situation on the ground;
  • With support of the M&E Manager consolidates data from the field to prepare data inputs for the internal and external reports;
  • Coordinates with the Nutrition PM to consolidate the data and narrative for reports;
  • Provides weekly reports from the field to Nutrition PM;

Capacity building

  • Highlights the training needs of nutrition team and presents the recommendations to the Nutrition PM;
  • Ensures appropriate support to the OTPs by regular visits and on the job training of less experienced staff members;

Tdh representation

  • At the request of the Nutrition PM, he/she represents the organization in the Nutrition sector meetings and nutrition technical working groups (e.g. CMAM, IYCF);
  • Represents TDH at the field level, participates in the camp meetings at the request of Nutrition PM;

  • Work in different cultural backgrounds and in difficult situations, deal with confrontation due to differences (intercultural);

Profile:

Experience

  • Degree in nursing/nutrition/health;
  • Technical knowledge on CMAM and IYCF, management of OTPs, SCs and TSFPs;
  • At least one year of experience in the implementation of Nutrition projects, preferably in humanitarian contexts;
  • A commitment to excellence, attention to detail;

Qualities

  • Excellent level of English, written and spoken, Bangladeshi or French is an asset;
  • Proactive and independent, able to work autonomously and to propose solutions to problems in a creative and realistic manner;
  • Excellent handling of IT tools, be it generalistic (Windows, Office, etc.) as well specific (EPI-INFO, etc);
  • Ability to work under stress in general, and in emergency situations in particular;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Culturally sensitive and willing to work in the field with local staff and community volunteers;
  • Flexible and with a sense of humor*.*

  • Providing guidance to employees and others and defining expectations when it comes to preventing, raising, denouncing and responding to issues of child abuse
  • Reducing the risk of child abuse by selectively recruiting employees and others
  • Reducing the risk of child abuse by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children.
